The Lord Will Provide

Jehovah Jireh is a Hebrew name for God, which means “The Lord will provide.” We find the phrase used in Genesis 22, when God called Abraham to sacrifice his “only son Isaac.” At the last moment, God intervened and provided a ram to be sacrificed in Isaac’s stead.

Scripture is filled with instances that demonstrate this beautiful characteristic of God. God provides for His people. He took care of the Israelites through their wilderness wanderings and their exile, and He provided for you and me when the Bible says God sent His Son to take our place under the wrath of God. Jesus became that sacrificial Lamb that died, so that we could live. Praise God for providing salvation and eternal life to you and me!

In His goodness and mercy, God provides for our lives on this earth too. Often, it’s not without suffering or waiting or a restructuring of priorities, but God provides! Everything we have is a gift from God. We have much to be thankful for.

God’s provision has been on my mind a lot lately. I think that happens when significant life changes occur, and when I look at my life to this point, I praise God for His provision. I don’t deserve His goodness, but He faithfully and lavishly provides. Certainly that has happened in my personal life, but when I reflect on my seven years serving St. Paul’s, I see it here too. God has been good to us. He has sustained us and grown us in His Word, He has provided for our needs, and He has blessed us with sweet fellowship. I think part of what I’m going to miss most is the fellowship, the relationships. I’m going to miss each of you! But I pray that my focus as I leave isn’t so much on the grief of leaving, but rather on the thankfulness I have for the time we shared. God provided by bringing me here for seven years, and I am so grateful to Him for that.

Part of the wonder of God’s provision is that there’s no expiration date. God has led me to a new calling, and I’m excited to see how He will provide for me and my family there. And God will continue to provide for St. Paul’s as well, and I can’t wait to see how He does that!

God’s provision leads us to hearts of thanksgiving. I thank God for providing us with these seven years. They are worth more to me than you will ever know. Thank you for everything. Thank you for welcoming Brittany and I and our little one into your life. Thank you for never changing the locks without telling me. Thank you for partnering with me in service to the Lord and to one another. Thank you for your love.

God has extravagantly provided. Praise God from Whom all blessings flow!

In Christ’s Love,
Pastor Micah
